I am debating whether or not to add a utility sink in the laundry room. I have never had one before it sounds pretty handy but am wondering if this add on would be worth it or be something that would be sitting there and never get to be used. So come on my blogging friends let me know if it is worth it or something that would be best left alone. Am in need of advice so any would be helpful. Thanks so much in advance.
Hey Stephanie....we didnt add one only because i have lived for 4 years without one...My parents have one next to their laundry in the basement but it too only got used at a bare minimum....If something is that dirty I can squirt it with the hose...
ReplyDeleteThat was my concern spending all the money one one then it will not be put to good use. It sounds neat and useful but wondering if it does get used. Thanks India. =)
ReplyDeleteWe did get one but in the month I've lived there I've only turned it on once to see if it worked. I'm sure we'll use it when we paint and have to clean brushes, but so far we haven't needed to.
ReplyDeleteHi Stephanie. We've never had one before, but I am excited to have one in the new house. Our laundry room also doubles as a mud room so I think it will be very useful there. I can imagine coming in with muddy shoes, kids, or dogs and leaving the mess there so it doesn't travel into the house. If the laundry room is not near where you come in then I don't think it would get as much use.
ReplyDeleteYou will find all kinds of uses for it...Shara mentioned a bunch...km hasn't used it yet, but it is very handy when cleaning up after painting. Soaking clothes that have gotten a stain...instead of doing it in a bathroom sink you can do it in the laundry tub right next to the washer...out of the tub right into the washer. Our current house doesn't have one, but there were numerous times I wish it did.
ReplyDeleteI've never had one. That being said...They may be neat to have.
ReplyDeleteWhere is your laundry room located? If it's upstairs, think about what you may acutally use it for. If it's downstairs, like Shara, that would be cool.
If your laundry is upstairs, maybe put it in your garage (yes you can do that). You can hose off dirty shoes, tools, ect. there and not track it in your home.
yeah its on the second floor....good point Shara
ReplyDeleteI have always had one and love it! I use it for things listed above. Any messes you don't want in a regular sink. I have a dog crate I always clean in mine as well. My husband is a plumber so he is installing ours but it is a must have for me!
ReplyDeleteWe did - plenty of use - and I think it was really cheap to have Ryan do it.
ReplyDeleteThanks everyone for the awesome advice! We have a week to make a decision I have plenty of time to decide.
ReplyDeleteDecisions, decisions, decisions =) Only a few more days till we have our pre-construction meeting yahoo.
Definitely would add it. I think with the incentive we got it was only $200 to add. We are building a Florence and adding it into the storage/HVAC room in the basement. I think it will be excellent for washing paint brushes, muddy shoes, etc and not having to dirty up the bathrooms
ReplyDeleteWe didn't add one because our laundry is on the second floor. If our laundry was on the first floor I would have added one. I just couldn't see us trekking upstairs to use it.
ReplyDeleteOur laundry is on the second floor however our sales rep did mention we can have the utility sink on the first floor if we wanted without a problem. I still have not decided yet. Keep the comments coming. =)
ReplyDeleteWe decided to get one in our laundry room that is on the first floor. We plan on using it for few different reasons. I do a lot of hand washing with my laundry. A big reason is that my fiance is pretty handy and has plans to do a lot of projects in the garage as well as automotive work so he really wanted to have one. I of course didn't object since I wouldn't want him getting the kitchen sink all dirty. Also, I think we both could find it useful to clean up after garden work or after our future puppy :) I think it would only be useful on the first floor though. If we had 2nd floor laundry we most likely wouldn't get it. Have fun at the pre-construction meeting!
ReplyDeleteGET THE SINK! As long as it could be done on the first floor. I grew up with one so it was a no brainer for me, but we also have first floor laundry.
ReplyDeleteI say go for it. We got one and our laundry is in the basement. I use it a lot to soak clothes with stains like BD said. Then they are right there to throw in the wash. I think the cost wasn't too much and in the long run over a 30 year morgatge it doesn't raise your monthly morgatge less than maybe a few dollars if that.
ReplyDeleteI can't believe the laundry room doesn't come with a utility sink and we had to ask our Sales Rep. to add it. I have never lived in a house without a utility sink. We currently use ours for cleaning the paint brushes and cleaning out the kitties litter pans. I couldn't imagine a life without a utility sink. I say go for it!!!
